The Importance of Mahalaya Amavasya
September 19th, 2017
Indians mostly tend to consider Mahalaya as the commencement of Devi Pakshya and the unofficial commencement of Durga Puja, there is more to this Tithi. Here is why this Tithi is so important to Hindus.
The new moon day known as the Mahalaya Amavasya is the beginning of Dussehra. It is a special day dedicated to making an offering to express our gratitude to all the previous generations of people who have contributed to our life.
This is the day when people swarm along river banks and pay their tribute to their lineage of ancestors. This is a beautiful way to show that although our ancestors no more walk around the earth, we still nurture respect and love for them in our hearts and our traditions.
The modern world exists as a gift from our ancestors. We enjoy such gifts from the lap of nature because they have made the earth what we see it as today. Without their blessings, we could not have been living life as we are doing now. This day shows us the dawn, when we can offer our tribute to our ancestors.
Social Dots hopes you all have a wonderful Durga Puja, and Dussehra. Hail Woman Power!
