The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who is currently serving his second term, has created ripples not only in the country, but across the world as well! Being the third most followed world political leader in Twitter, after Barrack Obama and Donald J. Trump, one can only imagine the popularity of our current Prime Minister.
Born as Narendra Damodardas Modi, he took office as the Prime Minister in 2014 and happens to be the only Indian Prime Minister till date, who was born in independent India! The journey from his birth town, Vadnagar to the Prime Minister’s Office was not a seamless one and his is a story of hard-earned success. So, what does our current Prime Minister’s political journey look like?
Let’s take a look:
It was in 1965 from Ahmedabad that his political career took off when he became the secretary of the Kankaria ward of the Jan Sangh.
In 1972, Modi officially joined the RSS or Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and formally set up the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student-wing of the organization, when he was only about 22 years old!
His initiation into mainstream politics happened in the year 1987, when he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
In 1995, BJP came to power in Gujarat, a strong hold which it holds till date and Modi was the National Secretary of the party then.
In 1998, Modi was appointed as the General Secretary of the party.
On 7th October, 2001, Narendra Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Gujarat, replacing Keshubhai Patel, whose ill health was becoming an issue.
From then onwards, Modi’s journey went uphill, apart from him running into a hiccup during the Godhra Riots in 2002.
The development model that he followed for Gujarat was highly appreciated and finally for the 2014 General Elections, he was a prime ministerial candidate and the rest as they say is history!
Here’s wishing our honorable Prime Minister luck and success in all the days to come, on his special day!
