We are all trapped inside our homes at the moment but it is incredibly tough for people who love to travel constantly. Now, all we can do is daydream about those far away lands and their glorious travel ideas through some beautiful travel-related books. We have drawn up some five of the best travel books to nurture the avid traveller within you and not lose hope about a better tomorrow.


A Cook’s Tour by Anthony Bourdain - This is a 2001 bestseller by chef Anthony Bourdain about his search for the perfect meals and beautiful local dishes throughout the world and various countries across continents. This includes countries like France, Portugal, Japan, Morocco, Cambodia, Spain, Vietnam and many more. He also tries out many experimental dishes and learns about the stories behind the food that he discovers in these places.

Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - This is one of the most read books but if you have not read it then you are surely missing out on some great stuff. This book is more like a memoir about Elizabeth Gilbert’s own travel across three countries in search of her own soul. She finds amazing food and friends in Italy, then she lands in India to discover her spiritual sides at an ashram and finally travels to Bali and finds love in an unknown man and learns to accept life with all its ups and downs.

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer - This book is one of its kind because it is a personal account of the Mount Everest Disaster of 1996 and is one of the best selling non-fiction by the author. A group of mountaineers, travellers and sherpas and the author himself were stranded in a storm on the last day of their Everest expedition when they were about to reach their summit after many days of extensive travel through hard terrains. Eight of their fellow travellers were killed in this disaster, many injured and the others suffered severe trauma from this experience. This book will give you a palpable experience of climbing the great Everest with the author and will let you live his story for those few hundred pages.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - This book is one of Coelho’s best works and has been translated into many languages leading it to become an internationally acclaimed masterpiece. Through the pages of this book, we are left dreaming and travelling with a little shepherd boy who wishes to travel the world and discover a treasure. The book takes us all to Spain and the Egyptian deserts, all the way to the great Pyramids and talks about the multiple layers of life and love that will find us in all walks of this very life.

Around India in 80 Trains by Monisha Rajesh - Written by a solo woman traveller and journalist based in England. Monisha was born in India and wanted to explore her homeland on trains. Travelling on trains through the Indian terrains she realised that there is more to travel than just the destination. She travelled for more than 65,000 km on 80 trains all across India which turned out to be a life-altering experience for her. Four months of hectic journeys on the quintessential Indian trains Monisha was left with many bitter-sweet memories of her travel through the country and had many inspirational stories to share which came out in the form of this book.
