 Sukhoi 30 MKI Sortie

Nirmala Sitharaman Becomes The First Woman Defence Minister To Fly A Sukhoi 30 MKI Sortie

January 18th, 2018
Nirmala Sitharaman became the first full-time Defence Minister to fly in a Sukhoi 30 MKI of the Indian Air Force in Jodhpur and this has sealed shut the mouths of sexist people!
Our very own ‘Raksha Mantri’ flew high, waving all the stereotypes a colossal goodbye!

Sitharaman had earlier visited INS Vikramaditya last week, to witness the naval operations and maritime prowess of the Indian Navy.
One of the most versatile fighter jets of the Indian Air Force (IAF), the Sukhoi-30 MKI has been acquired from Russia by India.

Before the scheduled take off, Sitharaman met air warriors of the Indian Air Force at Air Force Station Jodhpur. She was given a quick briefing on the supersonic jet by the Air Force pilot before taking off.

Sukhoi Su-30 MKI is a nuclear-capable aircraft, which can penetrate deep into enemy territory. As per reports, a Sukhoi-30 is capable of achieving a maximum speed of 2,100 km/hr - nearly four times more than a commercial airliner. It was first commissioned into the Indian Air Force in 2004.

It has been reported that by 2025, India plans to add two more Sukhoi squadrons to its fleet.
After crossing the speed of sound and flying taller than even Mt Everest, she landed gracefully and spoke about the historic and memorable experience that it was.
“It was an eye-opening experience to see what level of alertness is exhibited by our pilots. It also tells me what rigour and level of practice, and with what readiness and how quickly they have to respond to situations,” said Sitharaman after the sortie.
She addressed and interacted with the air warriors of Air Force Station, Jodhpur and congratulated them on their “professionalism, high state of morale and motivation”.

This step has paved way for many aspiring female pilots to chase their dreams of being a part of the IAF!
